What is Manual Osteopathy?

Osteopathic Manual Practitioners work to maintain, improve and restore the normal physiological function of interrelated body structures and systems, enhancing the body's natural ability to heal itself.

E.g - Back pain may be coming from the digestive system, the central nervous system, fascia, etc...Everything in the body is interrelated and as Manual Osteopathic Practitioners we want to make sure we correct the problem and not the symptom.

What's the difference between a Manual Osteopath and a Chiropractor?

Apart from manipulation, osteopaths use other techniques such as stretching, pressure and mobilization. Manual Osteopaths are also trained in cranial osteopathy or cranio-sacral therapy, which involve very subtle and gentle manipulations without any “clicking” of the joints. These techniques are seldom used by chiropractors.

How will I feel after a treatment?

Everybody is different and every injury or disease is different. There are lots of different factors to consider. It depends on the vitality of your body, what the injury/disease is, your job, are you allowing it to heal, your diet, etc...

Some people may be more sore then when they came in, and that is normal. Your practitioner will go over this when you have your initial assessment and appointments thereafter.

How often do I need to come in?

There is no set amount of treatments for everyone. It's a case by case, treatment by treatment basis. We've had many patients come in for 1 treatment and we don't see them again for month's, sometimes years. Sometimes those same patients who only took one treatment for their initial issue will come back in for a different reason and we have to treat them for weeks. Everyone is different.
